Neighborhood Based Efforts - Viva East Bank! and Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families
Viva East Bank!
Viva East Bank! is a coalition of residents and partners working together to revitalize three east-side neighborhoods in Des Moines: Capitol Park, Capitol East and MLK Jr. Park. Viva East Bank! consists of over 30 partners who are implementing comprehensive revitalization plans prepared by neighborhood residents in partnership with The City of Des Moines. Viva East Bank! came to formal existence because no single action or organization can achieve the revitalization of these three neighborhoods on its own.
Shifting from isolated impact to collective impact is not merely a matter of encouraging more collaboration or public-private partnerships, it requires a systemic approach to social impact that focuses on the relationships between organizations and the progress toward shared objectives.
By focusing on neighborhoods, the Viva East Bank! model allows for a place-based approach to addressing the needs of the neighborhoods. Viva East Bank! has five foci: 1) community building, 2) infrastructure, 3) community programming, 4) housing, and 5) business districts.
To date, over $9.3 million has been invested into the East Bank neighborhoods. This value does not include staff or volunteer time. For more information on partners, goals and success stories, please visit their website: www.vivaeastbank.com
