Action Steps

  1. Identify ways to provide free, high quality, preschool to low income students
  2. Research and implement strategies to improve kindergarten readiness
  3. Continue to support and expand access to quality out-of-school time programming, including robust summer programs
  4. Promote the importance of education and youth employment with youth and parents
  5. Research and implement strategies to effectively address factors that contribute to our community’s disparate graduation rate
  6. Partner with DMACC to implement enhanced preparation programming to increase the number of high school equivalency diploma awards
  7. Continue to develop training programs that align with quality, living wage, employment opportunities
  8. Advocate for funding and programming to increase the skills of central Iowan’s who are currently incarcerated
  9. Identify additional data that will inform our work – ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed)
  10. Explore how we might use alternative financing models, such as social impact bonds, to expand early childhood education opportunities in central Iowa.
